Council Remuneration

The purpose of Council remuneration is to provide an incentive for community members to hold public office and to show appreciation for those that dedicate their time and effort to the governance responsibility of District services, operations and programs.

Remuneration for District of Stewart Council is calculated annually in accordance with Bylaw #939, 2019 - Remuneration and Expenses, and is intended to provide fair compensation in a transparent manner.

In accordance with District of Stewart Council Remuneration Policy, the remuneration rates for Council are as follows:

Mayor’s Remuneration

As of January 2019, the Mayor shall be paid an annual indemnity of $15,436.00, (3% annual increase hereafter). 

Councillors’ Remuneration

As of January 2019, a Councillor shall be paid an annual indemnity of $9,930.00, (3% annual increase hereafter).
