Events
A number of events happen on a yearly (or bi-annual) basis. These events are well attended by locals and tourists alike.
- Border Town Snowmobile Club Poker Run
3rd Weekend in April - International Days
July 1st - July 4th
This annual event includes both the town of Hyder and Stewart. Canada Day celebrations begin on July 1st with the July 4th American holiday closing the event. - Stewart Annual Bear Arts Festival
August 13-14, 2010 - Friday night kick -off BBQ, Live music in the Pavilion, refreshment garden with designated drivers.
- Saturday events include a pancake breakfast, bake sale, Bear Aware activities, Grad/Fire Department sponsored BBQ, The Watermelon Man, amateur & professional photo contests, vender booths and Public library puppet show and children's games.
- Public Market runs Saturday, 11am-5pm with local arts and crafts; buy your ticket to win this years "Bear Quilt" created by the Stewart Christian Fellowship Ladies.
- Join our nature hike on Saturday @ 10:00am and relax with a game of bingo on Saturday afternoon.
- Local activities include: visiting our local museum, a self guided auto tour to Salmon Glacier and watching the bears at fish creek; Hyder, Alaska
- The photo contest in a must see. Professional and Novice photographers enter the event by providing their bear/wildlife photographs. Judges determine the winning photographs. These photographs show a variety of bears/wildlife in different formats. The photos are displayed at the Bear Interpretative Centre located downtown.
