Biographies
Mayor Angela Brand Danuser
- Angela was born and raised in the Prince George and Quesnel area. After graduating from the Marketing and Management program from the College of New Caledonia, she moved to Stewart in 1989. Angela and Brian have two children, Justin and Jorja, and co-own Brand New Video. Angela was employed as the Manager of the Stewart/Hyder Chamber of Commerce and for the District of Stewart before starting her political career when she was elected to the School Board in 1996. Elected in 2002, she is currently in her third term as Mayor.
Councillor Deacon-Rogers
- Les moved to Stewart in 1990 as Provincial Government Agent; a
position he held until retirement in 2002.During his employment as
Government Agent he held many statutory appointments such as Notary
Public, Commissioner for taking affidavits and Justice of the Peace.
From 2002-2005, as administrator of the federally funded RAIN
project, he worked with a number of First Nations communities on the
North Coast providing computer and internet training as well as
planning community wireless internet networks. During that period he
was also the Northwest Regional Co-ordinator of the Community Access
Program, a federal Government sponsored program which provided
public internet access sites in many communities throughout the
northwestern part of British Columbia.
- In 1999, Les was elected as School Trustee for 3 years and in 2002 was elected as Councillor in the District of Stewart, also for a 3 year term. He is a Director and Administrator of Onewayout.net Society, the non-profit group which provides wireless internet service to Stewart residents; and also serves as a Director of the Stewart Harbour Authority. Les has been a volunteer Ambulance driver in Stewart for over 5 years and continues to work with the organization. He has held executive positions with the Stewart Hospital Board, Stewart International Chamber of Commerce, Stewart/Hyder Downtown Merchants Society and Stewart Community Pride. In 2008, he was again elected as a Councillor for a 3 year term.
Councillor Durant
- Galina Durrant was born in Russia and moved to Canada in 1996. She received her Bachelor Degree in Commodity Research and Marketing of Food Products from Moscow University, Diploma in Management and Administration from Moscow Law School, Diploma in Accounting from the International Correspondence School, Montreal, Canada and Community Library Training Program certificate from BSLA, Victoria, BC.
- In addition to being a District Councillor, she has served as a Treasurer of the Stewart / Hyder Chamber of commerce and is currently the Community Librarian at the Stewart Public Library. Galina has served on boards such as the Stewart youth Centre, Stewart Public Library Association, Hospital Women Auxiliary and Snow Country Health Board. Galina and her husband, Roger have a daughter Jenia and two stepsons Andy and Rob, and four beautiful grandchildren.
Councillor Clark
- Robert was born in Toronto, Ontario, oldest of 2 boys. Being
raised in a semi-small town, Oakville, Ontario was a delight for my
friends and I. After high school I studied mining technology at
Haileybury School of mines, then onto Camosun College in Victoria. I
also attended the Colorado School of Mines. Robert has worked for
various engineering consulting companies in Quebec, Ontario, Yukon,
Alberta and B.C. He joined the Cassiar Fire Department and worked my
way up to Captain. He also worked as a Notary Public for the
Province of B.C.
- Robert has one son named Drew who lives in the Edmonton area and
a brother in the Calgary area. He enjoys the great scenery in B.C
and had to diversify his job career as the mining opportunities
faded during the late 1980's.
- He bought a gravel truck to work in the summer months and worked for the local highway contractor during the winter months. He was elected as Councillor in 2008 for a 3 year term and is looking forward to serving the people of Stewart.
Councillor Johns
- Dave was born in Vancouver, BC. He was schooled throughout
Alberta including some College and Technical schooling. He moved to
Stewart in 1988 where he took up residency. Dave has had numerous
jobs in the transportation sector including Labourer(traffic
control), construction and maintenance. He has also worked for the
Longshoreman both private and public.
- Dave has sought election since 1996, twice as Mayor and 4 times
as Councillor. Dave was appointed to council by Judicial recount
whereby he was one of three placed in a hat for the 2 councillor
positions available. He has been a constant attendee of the public
at all council meetings since the Millennium and has always had
input and sometimes even influenced some decisions. Dave has even
ran Provincially for the B.C.M.P., posting 3rd highest by
percentages for the party in the Province at nearly 2%.
- Dave has made impressions on all level of Government and Business and listens to the public regularly. He hopes to have a positive influence on his portfolios and his community at large. He hopes to have a productive 3 years as councillor as he brings knowledge and history to the table.
Councillor Ed Lister
- Ed was born in Clyde, Alberta. He enlisted in the RCAF in 1954
and served in several bases in Canada and France. He took his
release in 1965. Ed was employed for the next 35 years in the
trucking industry as a driver. He worked in the Yukon,Alberta and
BC. For the last 5 years of his trucking career he was an owner
operator in Prince George, BC where he retired in 2001.
- Ed's connection to Stewart began in 1978 when he was employed at
Arrow Transportation. He left Stewart for 2 years but returned to
work at Arrow Transportation again in 1980 until 1988.He left
Stewart once again the following year and returned in the fall of
2007. Ed ran for Municipal Council in the 2008 election and was
elected as Councillor for a three year term.
- Ed's hobbies include golf, photography, private pilot flying and both sail and power boating.
Councillor Ryder

Dave was born in Ashcroft, British Columbia and moved to Stewart in 1965.Where he attended elementary and secondary school. He worked underground at the Granduc mine, Premier , Scotty Gold and Red Mountain throughout the Stewart area. He has always been involved
in heavy construction. He left Stewart to work on various projects which included; the Ridley Island coal terminal, Kemano tunnel project, and CPR tunnel in the Rogers Pass. Work took him away to the Arctic twice in his life, once to a small Gold property in the NWT to sink an 1100 ft. mine shaft and than to the Ekati Diamond mine. -
In 1994 he went to Northern India and worked on a tunnel project for the summer and fall before returning to Canada. Dave was hired on with the highways maintenance contractor here in Stewart and spent a decade as Road Foreman for hwy 37a and hwy 37north.

Stewart has always been Dave's home and it was there where he met his wife Maria and married her in July of 2005. Dave got involved in politics in 2002 and was elected as Councillor, currently he works for a local construction company and he is looking forward to working with the rest of council, to help Stewart rebound again and bring it back to the beautiful little community, that he grew up in.
